They had a wonderful weekend together. She loved these times. Their hectic work lives in separate cities allowed them this luxury once in a month, sometimes in two months.
Her flight was at 8 in the morning. She woke up at 5 and spent some time just looking at him, sleeping peacefully cuddled up next to her. When sadness began to hit her she tried waking him up. He was however non cooperative and very infuriating. He kept teasing her, irritating her and fighting with her all the way to the airport.
She was exasperated. She hit back at the airport." Why the bloody hell do you always fight with me when ever I am leaving. Why can I not get on the plane, without the feeling that I could kill you?" He smiled the hooded smile which always made her weak in the knees. “It keeps you from thinking that you are going away and we will not be together. It would kill me to see you cry every time you go” he said simply... She stood there stumped. Like she had been run over by the love train...
Welcome to my Rainbow world!
To me Rainbows are a true expression of life. Our lives are full of a gamut of emotions and they together make the rainbow called life. When you strike the perfect harmony life is as beautiful as a rainbow. It is hope, optimism, the kind of perfection and balance we all strive for....

Their Dreams
She was looking intently at the screen. The numbers, the graphs, the excel sheet splashed in front of her. She was trying to give them some corrigible semblance while sipping her coffee. Her mobile vibrated and she frowned as the screen flashed "patidev".One of his jokes she realized. She picked up the phone grinning to hear a strained voice say," Hey sweetie, Got a couple of minutes".
He wanted to pick her up for dinner directly from work in a couple of hours. It was unusual because he usually preferred to go home and change before heading out anywhere. She did not ask him what is wrong. A year of knowing him had taught her that it was best to let him come to her on his own. He liked to chew on stuff before discussing it with her. And if it had been extremely urgent he probably would have been waiting for her outside her office. All these ruminations would have to wait, she said to herself. She had to finish her budget reports in a couple of hours. Something told her that taking work home today was not a good idea.
He was waiting for her in their new SUV. Why did two them need such a huge car, was beyond her understanding. But it made him happy. Sometimes, that is all that matters.
He was smiling when she got in. A quick hello and they were off. She was looking at him, waiting for him to say something. She looked at him, this diminutive yet impressive figure from Ivy League college was her husband. She didn’t even know him a year back."I think we should rather go home", is all that he said. She could not be patient any longer. “What the bloody hell is going on", she burst out. He smiled and squeezed her hand and said" Nothing that we cannot handle. You look pretty beat. Why don’t u just close your eyes and relax till we get home".She wanted to say more, but the traffic was getting thicker. She looked at the hand he was holding and nodded back at him. The rest of the journey was devoted to some music which neither of them paid any attention to.
She made tea when they got home. He was sitting on the couch. “I have been asked to shift to States”, he said eyeing her closely. She sat there frozen. She did not know how to react. She had thought this was a closed chapter. She said “oh” and got up and walked out.
They had discussed this before marriage. She had told him that this is a crucial phase for her career. He had just come back from States. And he had assured her that he was not one of the guys who expected his wife to drop everything and follow him around the globe.
He followed her in to the bedroom and found her staring out from the French windows. He went and hugged her from behind. “When do you have to go”, she asked.
He looked at her and said, “I never said I have agreed to go”. He sat her down on one of the chairs there and sat opposite her, still holding her hands. “But”, she said.
He smiled. She always could read his thoughts. “I do want to go. This is an amazing opportunity. And I want you to come with me.”, he said.
Such a hypocrite, she was thinking. Her biggest fear which had thought she had addressed before the marriage had reared its ugly head again. She knew she loved him enough to drop her work and go with him just because he wanted that. But it hurt her somewhere deep within to be asked to make such a choice.
She asked, “How long is it this time”. “A year, I have to supervise the new product launch. And that would need me to be at the HQs.” he replied.
“I will come with you”, she said. She got up from the chair and moved out of the room. He sat there knowing she was not happy. He knew he was being unfair. She had asked him to stay put in that city for at least a year. And within 5 months he had gone back on his word.
He called out to her, but when he did not hear any response he got up to look for her. He couldn’t find her anywhere. The door was ajar and the car keys were missing. His cell phone rang. He was relieved to see that it was her. “I just need to clear my head. I will be back in a hour.” she said. And before he could say anything she hung up.
He wanted to talk to her about it. He had not handled this well. He was expecting some resistance from her. But her quiet resignation to the situation had left him unnerved. Guilt flooded him. He messaged her, “I love you. I am waiting for you.”
She drove around for some time. She stopped at a quiet place by the beach. As she watched the waves crashing it felt like they were all her aspirations. Her calm exterior crumbled at that moment. She cried. Alone in that place she cried her heart out.But she knew what she had to do. Compromises had to be made. He had been her pillar of strength. This opportunity could make a big difference to his career.
She arrived back home to find him watching TV. The moment he saw her he walked towards her to take her in his arms. He looked in her eyes and said “You have been crying. Haven’t you?” She smiled and said nothing. That smile felt like a stab to him.
He put her to bed. She slept without a single word. He knew that he had to do something. The faith that she had reposed in him by not questioning his failure to keep his promise was weighing heavy on his conscience.
He worked all day thinking working all permutations and combinations to find a solution but panacea seemed elusive. He called her to let her know he will be late. He had no work in specific, just that he was not sure he could face her. She did not answer the call when the phone rang. He checked her calendar. He loved this new synchronizing software which allowed them to share calendars making life simpler. Her calendar reflected her status as out of office. He panicked and called her office direct line. There was no response.
His cell rang and it was her. She seemed out of breath. “Are you ok, honey?” he said.” Yeah, I just came home early today. There wasn’t much to do at work.” she said. His heart skipped a beat. That did not sound like his wife who claimed that work was her first love. He had to get home fast.
He was welcomed by aroma of chocolates and pineapple when he got home. There was freshly baked chocolate cakes, muffins, pineapple cakes in the kitchen. He just stood there stumped. She used to bake often but today looked like she planned to go commercial. She stood there in middle of everything with a ladle looking hassled. She looked at him and smiled. She said, “Well I thought I might get used to all this from now on.” He had to do something and he had to do it fast. This was a woman, he did not know.
He managed to tuck her in front of the TV. He got the maid to clean up the kitchen. As, he was putting away the goodies his grey cells were working overtime. He thought maybe they could give away some stuff to his college buddies who were always fawning over her baking. It was then that the lightning struck him.
He worked on the idea all day. He would have to call in a few favors but what the hell. He would leave no stones unturned if he could make this situation work.
Today when he went back home, there was actually a spring in his step. There was hope. He sat her down and said, “You know I love you. You know I want us to be happy”, he said. She said, “Any particular reason you are restating the obvious”. He smiled. “You have heard of Kewhat University?” he said. He knew he had her attention now. She always had wanted to go and do an advanced course there. “They run a one year masters course there with specialization in branding. My company sponsors employees for this course every year. There are seats reserved for us that is.”. “ But I am not an employee of your company”, she said understanding the drift. “Yes, but I am. They have one seat available this year which no one has applied for. They will give it to you as a special consideration. You of course will have to write your GMAT and apply and take care of formalities. But I know you are capable of pulling through that. And we have time. We do not have to shift for at least another three months.” he said. He was looking at her intently. She was carefully weighing her options. “But what about you? Where will we live? Won’t I have to live on the campus? What will this course cost us?” she asked. He smiled. She had at least liked the basic idea. “This campus is two hours drive from the city where I will need to be based. We can spend week ends together. Heck, I can drive down every day. And the money, we will manage. Tell me one thing but, Would this make you happy?” He said afraid to take his eyes off her. He remembered the moment he had proposed to her. Perhaps his heart had fluttered a trifle more then.
She hugged him and between tears and laughter told him yes this arrangement made her happy. He made her happy. And her decision to marry him was the best decision of her life time.

Hobbes
She walked towards home carrying a range of shopping bags sweating and cursing. She opened the door to see a face dressed in a white shirt and blue denim smiling at her from the couch. She stopped right there.Anya who was behind her brought her back to her senses.
Both of them walked in the home and were greeted by a boisterous hello. He came forward to help them with the bags. Anya was looking at him and her. She felt stupid. She had been staring at him. She introduced them both. He was a dear friend who was in town for a couple of days. She was not sure if he would be coming in and had left a set of keys with the security just in case.
She did not need this right now. She had a splitting headache. The sun and all the shopping had got to her. She realised,he was talking gently with Anya while looking at her . Miraculously a glass of cold water had appeared in her hand. She seemed to be in a daze.
He took her hand, sat her on the couch and urged her to drink water. She closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes she realised she was sitting on the couch with him with her head on his shoulder and holding his hand. She had almost fainted. She never could stand the sun.
She looked up at him and saw a worried look in his eyes. A nod of her head and the smile was back. She just sat there with her eyes closed as she heard him and Anya exchange background dough. She didn't have to work on making them comfy,he was good at it.
She strangely felt safe. After a while she opened her eyes he insisted she take a shower. It seemed like a good idea. Anya had agreed to stay over for dinner. She gave her a set of clothes to change into and went for the shower. It all still seemed like a dream. Luke warm water can do wonders for the aching body. She shampooed her hair and stepped out in a pair of denim cut offs and a pink t-shirt. The world had stopped spinning.
She found him in the kitchen with glasses of chilled iced tea. He gave her a warm hug and whispered in her ears that she smelt nice. She smiled. It was nice to have friends who cared.
All of them sat down in the living room with glasses of iced tea and shopping bags strewn all over. Each bag was opened, content examined. There were t-shirts,denims ,skirts everywhere. She and Anya had quiet a successful day and long credit card bills to prove it. He sat in middle of mayhem created by two gals trying out their new outfits and exchanging shopping tips. He looked very much at home.
He said he had been shopping too. He came back with a big packet which looked heavy. He gave it to her and told her this was for her. She thought he was kidding. She opened the package and was greeted by reams and reams of paper. She looked at him and he urged her to keep opening. Out of it came the entire collection of Calvin and Hobbes. She sat there stunned. It was the whole collection. Must have cost him a fortune. She remember their last discussion and he had said something about her being his hobbes. She did not know what to say. Anya was gushing all over the collection. And stupidly all she could blabber was thanks.
They ordered food and sat there reading the books and discussing.... She left most of the talking to Anya and him. She just sat next to him, happy and in a stupefied daze...

Fourth Blow
She said she had liked him. He was a guy her parents had picked up for her. In fact his parents were pestering her parents for the marriage. She was excited. She was ready to move on in life. She looked around and found that they had common friends. Amazingly small world. What she stumbled upon however was heart rending. He was going around with this other chic. Everyone was sure they would marry. He probably had not told his parents about this relationship. She was heartbroken.Nothing serious. Just a little dent.
She did not know how to deal with this. She had already told her parents to go ahead and start conversations because the basics had appealed to her. The horoscopes had matched. The elaborate process was in full swing. She had lost the chance to nip it in the bud. She could not tell them about the other gal because she did not want him in trouble with his family.
She hoped all this would fizzle out without causing anyone in either family any hurt.
She cared for a man who probably did not even know she existed. She walked away with a smile. A smile so brave and radiant...

Where i am today!
I think about where I am today .. Somewhere where i always wanted to be.But it took lot of people to bring me here. I have been lucky to have had the support system i have had. I am grateful to all the people who played a role in my life... Some of them have taken different roads..Roads that may never meet again while some trudge along with me stoically.
Each person has played a special role.. Each person has taught me some thing.I value every relationship I have come across..Bitter ones or sweet ones... And i know der r many more relationships in store...
Someone made me believe in myself..He taught me that every problem can be dealt with in a cool and calm manner..There is a solution to everything...
I always had dreams...Some one egged me on to make them a reality...
I love dem all... Stay wid me you guysbecaz i have a long way to go yet..
Einstein once said"A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving." ...( Contribution by a scholar friend)

Helpless Watcher
She came to me last night. She looked so lost. All that I could do was take her in my arms. She held me close but did not break down. The pain had numbed her or maybe she had cried enough for a lifetime.
I was worried. The cool chirpy girl i knew was nowhere to be seen.I knew the guy who had broken her spirit few months ago.I had stood by her as she had battled to pick up the threads of her life again. I had been amazed by the strength she had shown moving ahead with such grace.
I had seen her smile and laff den. I had seen people around love her not realising the pain that was choking her inside. I had watched her come home to me lock herself in the spare room and cry for hours. I had left her alone. Some wounds need time.Words do no justice.
And then there was another blow. Sometimes i wonder if god tests our limits.I watched carefully looking for signs of cracking. I was to be left stunned. Her poise had me speechless. There was no anger.A very cool practical indifference. An assertion that life is beautiful and it must go on. I could not have been more proud.
Yet today she looked like a frightened child. Her soul seemed to be in distress. The rock i knew was crumbling. I was caught on the wrong foot. I am not ashamed to admit she had become this demi goddess i worshiped. She had all the strength in the world. Yet my belief was shaking in front of me. I was scared.
I did not push her to talk. I just sat down with her as she stared at far & beyond. I knew she would tell me when she was ready. I knew she was lonely. There was only so much comfort i could give her.I prayed for god to give her strength.

My Pad.....
I am happy. I feel like life just got better. My family is coming to town for next two weeks. New furniture and curtains give my home a cozy look. Not to forget the fresh flowers for the sole purpose to please my mom.
All this makes me wonder if family is what gives you real happiness is it worth living away from them? A flashback of life last one year answers all my questions.
I have had the time of my life. My pad has been the party adda for all my friends. We have had some fun times. No curfews no obligations...Bindaas...
Loads of my friends have come over and stayed with me. It just made life so much simpler. Golden rule at my place-Do not expect me to wait on you. I have an open house. Walk in to kitchen and help your yourself to anything you want. I have a cook. There is a pile of take out menus. And if you are nice to me I might cook you something splz.:-) The formula has worked well.
And I could get my space my peace. I have watched TV alone for numerous hours. I have read many a books with my music in the background.. And sum times I have done nothing but stare at the ceiling trying to make sense of my life...
I have recuperated in the safety of my home during bad times. I have hid away from rest of the world to soak in my sorrow or rejoice. My home has always given me unfailing love and warmth.
It requires a commitment to run your own home. Everything from bills to servants has to be taken care of on a regular basis. It can be so painful to put away your clothes in your almirah only to realize there is another pile of laundry which needs to be taken care of. You get used to it. You learn to treat it as an integral part of your life.
My world...My pad...
